The Decision to Relax
After a few weeks of trying to embrace my natural hair, I decided to relax it. My hair wasn't growing as I'd hoped, and I missed the sleek, straight look of relaxed hair. The puffiness and style of natural hair weren't quite working for me this time around.
I'd already purchased new products for a fresh start, including a relaxer, shampoo, conditioner, and styling tools. I was ready to begin a new chapter in my hair care routine, focusing on achieving healthy, relaxed hair.
Relaxer Selection and Application
My local Target only had the ORS Olive Oil relaxer, which requires mixing. I prefer no-mix relaxers, as I've found my hair does better with them. In the past, I’ve had better results with the no-mix type and noticed a significant difference in hair health.
I applied the relaxer, following the instructions carefully. I paid close attention to thoroughly washing it out, even though I was unsure if the included shampoo was a neutralizing shampoo. I wanted to ensure all traces of the relaxer were removed to prevent damage.
Styling and Products
After washing, I used a microfiber towel to dry my hair, avoiding the harshness of a regular towel. This helped to keep my hair smoother and healthier.
I styled my hair with a new Cantu mousse. While I found the hold wasn't as strong as I would have liked, I intend to experiment with other mousses to find the right one. I also used my new brushes and combs; having the right tools is essential for healthy, relaxed hair.
I opted for Moroccan oil to add shine and silkiness, rather than my usual silicone mix. While I did later use the silicone mix the next day, the Moroccan oil added the needed luster.
Final Results and Conclusion
The final result was beautiful, straight, and shiny hair. I'm very happy with how it turned out, and I love the softness and smoothness. The Cantu mousse provided a decent hold, but next time I will try a stronger mousse for better results.

The ORS Olive Oil Relaxer, while requiring mixing, did produce satisfying results. I will keep searching for a no-mix relaxer option in the future. Overall, despite the slight hiccups with the shampoo and mousse, this was a successful relaxing experience.
