Choosing the Right Bleaching Kit
Choosing a hair bleaching kit can be overwhelming. There are so many options on the market, each promising different results. I decided to try the Splat Lightening Kit, primarily because the test strips showed promising results, and the hair felt relatively soft after the test.
I performed test strips on my hair before committing to a full bleach. The Splat kit stood out because it yielded the most desirable results in terms of lightening and hair texture preservation. The other kits I tested were Blue Envy and Purple Desire.
The Bleaching Process
Before starting, it's important to remember that I am not a professional hair stylist. My hair was quite greasy before I began bleaching, which is something I've been advised not to change for a couple of days before and after the bleaching process.

I applied the bleach carefully, following the instructions on the kit. I had extra bleach from other kits as backup – always better to have too much than not enough! The process took quite a while, and my scalp started to burn slightly after about 50 minutes in the front (30 minutes in the back).
I opted to prioritize my scalp comfort and removed the bleach mixture before any significant damage or severe burning sensations occured. The bleaching was not uniform, as it takes time to fully bleach such a large area.
Post-Bleaching and Toning
After rinsing out the bleach, my hair was significantly lighter, but some yellow undertones remained. This is typical with bleaching, even when the process is careful and well executed.
To address the yellow tones and achieve a more even, ashy blonde, I used a toner – Color Charm T18. This will be detailed in another video. This step is crucial for achieving a professional look and avoiding that brassy, yellow hue. This step is not necessary if you are going for a more yellow-based blonde.
Final Results and Conclusion
The final result was noticeably lighter hair, though some areas were lighter than others due to the time constraints. While the Splat kit performed adequately, its unevenness was somewhat disappointing. The test strip results seemed to promise a more even overall outcome, which was not entirely reflected in the final look.
For those looking for a convenient at-home bleaching option, the Splat Lightening Kit offers a decent level of lightening power. However, users should be prepared for potential unevenness and the need for extra steps, such as toning, to achieve a more uniform and desirable color. Due to the potential scalp irritation and uneven results, I would recommend caution and further research before using this product. It’s better to consult a hair professional if you desire precise and predictable results.
